For many of the events the Club pays the Entry cost as part of our Annual VGL Fees. All of the events are listed on our Calendar, please contact the Committee if you are interested in playing. Aaron Delia (+3 76-74-69) won his third consecutive Club Champion title on Saturday, producing a Course Record equalling 69 off the stick to secure the win.
Leading by five shots heading into the final round, it was always going to be a tough ask for the chasing pack, but Aaron gave them no chance firing five birdies on a blistering front nine. His three-under total equalled the Club record set by James Bannan in April 2012. Runner-up Luke Audley (+13 77-80-72) finished strongly with a 72, and John Bozinovski (+19 79-76-80) was third. Clare Lewin (98-86-100) is also now a three-time Champion, adding to the Women's titles she won in 2011 and 2014. Judy Cooper (93-99-104) and Pam Davey (102-94-100) tied for runner-up. Aaron Delia (-8 72-70-66) also won his second A Grade Championship, with Luke Audley (-2 72-75-67) runner-up and John Bozinovski (+5 74-71-76) joint third with Richard Walpole (+5 74-75-72). In B Grade Ken Barbuto (+9 72-77-76) captured his second title after previously winning in 2009. Darren Cunningham (+15 73-82-76) and the fast-finishing Tim Lewin (+15 76-83-72) shared second place. Tony Schipano (+5 70-73-78) held on to his lead to add a C Grade Championship to his B Grade win from 2011. Henry Nothdurft (+9 75-74-76) was runner-up, with Murray Simson (+10 80-79-76) in third. The Women's Grade produced the closest finish of the day, with Pam Davey (+17 81-73-79) scoring 79 to pip Clare Lewin (+18 81-69-84) at the post. Join fellow Members for a BBQ Lunch on the restaurant veranda to celebrate the climax of the Club Championships after your round this Saturday. All food will be provided for GFGC Members. Leading into the final round, Aaron Delia is on track for a historic three-peat as Club Champion, with a 5 stroke lead. Club stalwart John Bozinovski leads the chasing pack, one stroke ahead of newcomer Luke March and 2005 Champion Mick Lowrie, with Luke Audley a further stroke behind. After a dominant 2nd round 86, Clare Lewin is also looking for her third title, leading the Women's Championship by 8 strokes. Judy Cooper is in 2nd place, with Pam Davey a further 4 shots back. In A Grade (nett) it's the same top 5, Aaron Delia is 3 shots ahead of Luke March and John Bozinovski, with Luke Audley and Mick Lowrie just behind them. 2009 Winner Ken Barbuto is tied with Trevor Skeoch in B Grade, with Andy State 5 shots away in 3rd and Darren Cunningham a further shot behind. Tony Schipano, who already has a 2011 B Grade win to his name, leads the way in C Grade. He is 5 shots ahead of Gerry Nelson, with Henry Nothdurft a further shot away in 3rd. The Committee have agreed that this year's Club Championships will now be a three round competition, with the final two rounds proceeding as scheduled. Some consideration was given to extending the event by an extra week to allow for a fourth round. This idea was rejected on the grounds that many players may not be available on 7 March since it is a long weekend. Participants are reminded that any ties at the end of the competition will be resolved as follows:
It is convention that the leading four players at the start of the final round play in the same group. Tee times (as designated by the Pro Shop) will be as follows: 7:10 Women 7:18 C Grade 7:26 B Grade 7:34 Club Champion (Gross) Players will be informed if they are in one of the final groups. Welcome back to another year of golf at the Frog, a very special year since it is our 10th Anniversary.
The Committee will be considering ways of recognising this milestone, but we welcome any ideas you might have to help make it memorable. Membership Renewal Many members have not renewed by the due date, meaning there are now a significant number who have had their Golflink number suspended. This means they are not able to register for competitions, nor will they be able to enter the Club Championship. Processing renewals is not an immediate process – a few days are required for Golflink to deal with them. If you know of anyone in this position please remind them to get their renewal in ASAP. The Website A special thanks to Simon Stoker for his work on upgrading the website. We are sure you will agree that it is a much better site, providing members with all the information they need to keep in touch with what’s going on at the club. Match Committee The matter of GUR signs was raised at the recent committee meeting. It is evident that considerable work has been undertaken to re-sow the first cut of rough on many holes, but the GUR signage is less than clear in delineating the actual areas where relief may be taken. With the Club Championships nearing it is important that we resolve the uncertainty around this matter, so the Match Committee will be looking closely at what can be done over the next week or two. Look out for more information on this, especially in the lead-up to the Championships. With the change of date to the Championship it is also necessary to review our rules regarding eligibility of players who join GFGC at 1st Jan. This will be undertaken in the near future. Club Championships Please note that if you are not financial you are not eligible to compete in our premier event, which this year begins on Feb 7. Registration for the Championship can be made online through the website. Presentation Day 2014 It seems that the change initiated last year to have the presentation on a Saturday at the end of the comp, with lunch provided, has generally been received positively by members. In particular it was good to see that most trophy winners were present to receive their awards. One concern evident to all was that the level of background noise made it difficult to hear speeches. We will be endeavouring to ensure that we overcome this issue in the future. Finances We are continuing to strengthen our position following the significant expense incurred last year in moving to the Tier 3 automated competition system, which has greatly improved the lot of the handicapper in particular. VGL fees are due soon, in the order of $12,000, and our annual fee to MiClub of approx. $4,000 is also due. These are significant sums for a club of our size, but we are confident that we are tracking well. Thanks are due to Clare Lewin for her excellent work in managing our books. The committee welcomes input from members that will improve the running of the GFGC. If you have ideas or concerns please talk to one of the committee members, put them in writing to the Secretary, or use the Contact Us Form. At the request of the Pro Shop the Black Tee competition originally scheduled for Saturday 31 January 2015 has been postponed.
A 'normal' Stableford competition will be run instead. The Black Tee event will be rescheduled to a future date (to be decided) to coincide with an upcoming Callaway product launch. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Join Northern Health Board members, Senior Professional Golfers, executives and community members on Tuesday 24th March at the 2015 Northern Health Foundation Corporate Golf Day at the Growling Frog Golf Course. The event aims to raise $45,000 to support the development of a Sensory Simulation Room at Bundoora Extended Care Centre. The event provides a wonderful opportunity to play a round of golf with a Professional Golfer. Each playing group will be teamed up with a Professional Golfer from the Professional Seniors Circuit. Players will compete in a Stableford Competition for individual players, as well as a team event incorporating the Senior Professionals score. Discounted Entry Fee for GFGC Members - $50
Further information and Entry Forms, see Wayne in the Pro Shop. Members are reminded that Subscription payments for 2015 are due on 1 January.
You can complete the Renewal Form online, or download a printable version - click here. Please note that GolfLink Accounts for unfinancial members will be suspended as of 18 January. Unfinancial Members will be unable to enter any Club competitions, including the Club Championships in February. Please help us to help you be renewing early. If you renew, and pay, after 17 January it may take several days to process the renewal and re-activate your GolfLink account. Please do not expect to pay and be re-activated the same day. The Pro Shop Staff cannot activate Golf Link numbers, this step is done by the GFGC Secretary. If you have any questions about Renewals, please speak to a member of the Committee, or click here to contact us online.
